What’s happening?
Authorities arrested and charged two suspects with ties to racial and ethnic extremism who allegedly plotted to attack the power grid in Baltimore City, according to an announcement by federal and local officials on Monday, Emily Mae Czachor and Nicole Sganga report for CBS Baltimore.
The suspects—Sara Beth Clendaniel of Catonsville, Maryland and Brandon Russell of Florida—are connected to racist groups and Nazi beliefs. Russell, who is also implicated in another planned attack on U.S. infrastructure, founded a “terroristic neo-Nazi organization” and is believed to have given instructions and location details to Clendaniel.
Why did the two allegedly target the power grid?
In recent years, domestic terror extremists have increasingly focused attacks on power grids and utilities infrastructure. CBS obtained a January bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security identifying the U.S.’s 55,000 power substations as an “attractive target” for extremists who have developed “credible, specific plans to attack electricity infrastructure since at least 2020.” Law enforcement notified the public of other attacks in North Carolina and Washington state, where tens of thousands of customers lost electricity.
“The utility sector has a real problem on its hands,” Brian Harrell, former Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection at DHS, told CBS News. Power stations are an attractive target and domestic terror groups know that destroying this infrastructure can have a crippling effect on industry, citizens, and local governments.” Harrell also said the agency has detected a rise in online chatter among extremists mentioning attacks on power substations.
Anything else I should know?
Authorities have not connected the alleged planned attack in Baltimore City to those in other states or to a larger conspiracy, though officials said they are continuing to investigate.

Пройти аттестацию на 4 группу и получить необходимые корочки можно через 2 месяца работы
с 3 группой допуска. 3 группа – электротехнический персонал с высшим или средним
специальным образованием, который удостоверение по электробезопасности купитьдключает и эксплуатирует установки,
работающие под напряжением до 1000 В.
Данная группа присваивается специалистам не моложе 18 лет, присвоение группы возможно с высшим образованием после 1
месяца работы, со средним специальным – после полугода.
3-я группа по ЭБ – это уже электротехнический персонал (электрики, электромонтажники, электротехники).
Все работники, которым нужен допуск по электробезопасности, подразделяются 2 основные категории: неэлектротехнический и электротехнический (электротехнологический) персонал.

охраны труда, пожарной и электробезопасности; знать устройство и обслуживание оборудования,
порядок проведения проверок,
надзора, уметь читать схемы
и проводить инструктаж.
