State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby Announces Bid For Reelection With Trial Looming

What’s happening?

Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced her bid for reelection in a video on Tuesday, April 12, CBS Baltimore reports. In January, Mosby was indicted for perjury and making false statements on a loan application for two vacation homes in Florida.

What is the status of Mosby’s trial?

Mosby’s trial was scheduled to begin May 2, but a judge delayed the start to September after Mosby’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, filed a motion reiterating the court’s concerns about both parties being inadequately prepared. Mosby and Bolden originally advocated for an immediate trial that would conclude before the primary election in June.

Prosecutors have also accused Mosby of lying about facing financial hardship during the Covid-19 pandemic to withdraw money from her retirement account without penalties. Both Mosby and her attorney maintain her innocence.

Anything else I should know?

The deadline to file election bids is on Friday, April 15. Mosby, a Democrat, joins three other candidates in the race, including Democrats Ivan Bates and Thiru Vignarajah and Independent candidate Roya Hanna.
