Restaurant Owners Will Answer For Black Mom’s Discrimination Allegations

What’s happening?
U.S. Circuit Court Judge George L. Russell III is moving forward in a discrimination lawsuit in which a Black mother accused Baltimore’s Atlas Restaurant Group of denying her son entrance because of their race. 

What prompted this?
When the incident occurred outside of Ouzo Bay restaurant last summer, Marica Grant recorded a video and shared it on social media. The recording showed a manager explaining that her son’s shorts violated the restaurant’s dress code, even though she claims a white child nearby wore similar attire. The video was viewed a million times and prompted protests and calls for a boycott. 

Anything else I should know?

While the lawsuit included four claims, Judge George L. Russell III decided to only move forward with one of the accusations stating, among other reasons, that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove intentional infliction of emotional distress for Grant and her son.
