Maryland Dems Hope New Postal Leaders Will Improve Service For Residents

What’s happening?

Lora McLucas is set to become the new U.S. Postal Service district manager for Maryland, and Eric Gilbert is taking the reigns as postmaster for Baltimore, which services most of Maryland.

Why are the new positions a big deal?

The new leadership comes after reports that Marylanders have received some of the worst postal services in the country.

“Citizens have been going weeks without receiving their mail – including paychecks and prescriptions – only to face hours-long lines and unacceptable customer service when they go to the post office to pick up backlogged mail in person,” said Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), according to Maryland Matters.

Anything else I should know?

Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) hopes that the new leadership can use the inspector general’s audit of six local post offices— Dundalk, Essex, Loch Raven, Middle River, Parkville, and Rosedale—to create an efficient plan for improvement.
