What’s happening?

Sixty-two percent of Maryland voters including Democrats (62% approve), Independents (62% approve), and Republicans (54% approve), expressed their support for the legal use of marijuana in a recent survey from Goucher College, reports Bryn Stone for The Baltimore Sun. 

What does this mean for the legalization of pot in Maryland? 

The results bode well for the outcome of a proposed referendum in the General Assembly that could allow voters to decide if the state should legalize up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana for recreational use by Marylanders ages 21 and older. If passed by the state Senate, the decision will appear on the ballot in November. 

Anything else I should know? 

The survey’s results also found that Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s approval ratings are higher than President Joe Biden’s dwindling ratings. Additionally, participants were split on how Maryland lawmakers plan to spend the state’s multibillion-dollar budget.
