City School Employees Could Get Fired If They Aren’t Vaccinated

What’s happening?

The total percentage of Baltimore City Public School employees who have received the COVID-19 vaccine is 87%, according to recent data reported by The Baltimore Sun. Under a new mandate, if the non-vaccinated employees don’t get the shot or request exemption by early December, they could get fired.

Does this mean the system is going to be down a lot of teachers?

According to The Sun, school officials “aren’t anticipating many teachers will resign or be forced to leave because they refused to comply.” Currently, the system has about 5,200 teachers.

Anything else I should know?

While 87% is the total number of vaccinated employees throughout the school system, 97% of principals are vaccinated, while 90% of teachers have received the shot.
