Baltimore’s Recreations and Parks Department Is Getting A $41 Million Investment

What’s happening?

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott announced plans to invest $41 million into the city’s recreation and parks department. The funding comes from the $641 million awarded to the city from the American Rescue Plan, reports Emily Opilo for The Baltimore Sun.

Where’s the money going, specifically?

According to the Sun, about half of the funding will go toward upgrading recreation centers, about $5 million will pay for improving city playgrounds, and $2.2 million is allotted to the improvement of 15 athletic courts.

Anything else I should know?

More than 75% of the federal government’s COVID-19 relief funding is accounted for with projects targeting Baltimore’s homeless population and digital divide among other needs.
