What’s happening?

A new recreation center—the largest owned by the city—will open in Cherry Hill on November 9th, Dominick Philippe-Auguste reports for WMAR. The Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center joins other projects spearheaded by community organizers, Mayor Brandon Scott, and Baltimore City Recreation and Parks transforming 11 miles of coastline along the Patapsco River into parks, trails, and other recreational options.

What kind of amenities will the fitness center include?

The $23.1 million facility will feature three pools, a community room, fitness studios, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and an indoor walking track, among other services.

“This is the pinnacle of recreation advancement for Baltimore City,” said Executive Director Reginald Moore, Baltimore City Recreation and Parks. “The new Middle Branch Fitness and Wellness Center not only reimagines the way we do recreation in Baltimore but sets the standard for the future of recreation.”

Anything else I should know?

A grand opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 9th at the Reedbird Park at 12:15 p.m., followed by a community celebration on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m.
