2022 Marks Baltimore’s Deadliest January In Nearly 50 Years

What’s happening?

Police have documented 36 homicides in January 2022, making it the deadliest January in almost 50 years, reports Jessica Anderson for The Baltimore Sun.

How are Baltimore police responding to this? 

The Baltimore Police Department released a statement on Monday morning noting they’ve arrested 58 people over the weekend, including two suspects charged for murder. Officers also served 55 warrants for murder, attempted murder, robberies, and possession of a handgun. 

Anything else I should know? 

Mayor Brandon Scott has announced a goal to reduce gun violence by 15% from year to year, according to The Sun. Currently, not only are homicides up compared to this time last year but so are nonfatal shootings.
